Gig Description

It’s taken extra hard toil to nail this kaleidoscopic line up of spectacular artists for our next event. We’ve wanted to see Sculpture on home soil since seeing them dazzle audiences at last year’s Mutek festival in Montreal. The stars aligned for us to bring one of our favourite noise funk provocateurs Horacio Pollard over from Berlin on the London leg of his ‘Cheapest cigs n booze in town tour’. We’re also delighted that living legend Man from Uranus will add a cosmic colour to proceedings. To complete this marvellous line up we have a debut London show from Manchester don Danny Saul.

Sculpture

Employing a blend of cutting-edge digital and archaic, often lo-fi analogue technologies, Sculpture’s arsenal includes reel-to-reels, Walkman cassette players and a custom zoetrope-like A/V set-up based on hacked vinyl turntables. Sculpture is visually ingenious, hallucinatory, dense and defined by magnetic, physical tape manipulation, found sounds, and miles of reverb and delay.

The result of chance meetings and successful first improvisations with their hybrid opti-sonic gear, Sculpture's first zoetropic picture disc in 2010 created an instant internet sensation with its magical animations and music. Hayhurst works solo as well, releasing material that bears his signature sonics: a woozy chaotic melange, dense with psychedelia, informed by all eras, from modern techno and bass to the future-past influences of electronic synth music pioneers. Having released on Daniel Lopatin’s Software label and Patten’s Kaleidoscope, Sculpture have proven their uniqueness even in the world of "recorded" objects.

Intent on crossing the audio-visual divide, their performances are unmissable, creating an experience of surreal multi-dimensional play, where everything makes total sense.

Horacio Pollard

‘’Pollard is one of the few creative people on the globe (Romain Perrot is another) who understands that “good taste” is the very death of art, and as such he needs to be cherished like a Siberian Tiger, albeit one whose pelt is made from artificial dayglo blue fur " Ed Pinsent, The Sound Projector.

Expect nothing less than a beautiful waste of energy, homemade cine projections and much gaffa tape

Man From Uranus

Phil MFU is a London based electronic musician and keyboardist; his music is laden with exotic electronic sounds that are psychedelic and playful. He will be playing a live set of engaging electrified ((((((((outer space))))))))) music incorporating film and bizarre absurdist themes. This is a rare solo show for MFU as he’s frequently busy touring the globe with Vanishing Twin.

Danny Saul

Sound artist Danny Saul is one of Manchester’s most prolific and critically acclaimed electronic musicians, having worked in a variety of shape-shifting collaborative projects over the years. His solo laptop shows are an assault of complex beats and arrangements, abstract textures and sonic detail, using algorithmic and generative processes via MaxMSP coding language and modular analogue synthesis techniques.
