Gig Description

The NME may now be just a website, but the former magazine which first appeared in 1952, was the first British paper to include a singles chart, and in it’s 1970s pomp became the best-selling British music newspaper, soon becoming associated with punk rock and the writings of Julie Burchill, Paul Morley and Tony Parsons. The 1970s were the golden age of the inkies, and Sounds, Melody Maker and Record Mirror held sway together in a clearly hectic marketplace, all holding out into various youthquakes before leaving just the New Musical Express standing in the internet age. Widely published music author Chris Salewicz (Zepelin, Marley, Amy Winehouse, Stones, Who etc etc) and Daily Mirror music correspondent and, spoken wordist and poet Gavin Martin (Talking Musical Revolutions) will join Tony Bugbear tonight, and you, the audience, to discuss Music Journalism, and Music Writing Now And Then, so please come along with your pencils and notebooks poised and get involved. Gavin will also be performing and there will be DJs, and further journo tinged musical and spoken word contributions to be announced shortly.
