Gig Description

Tony Drayton – Ripped and Torn: 1976 – 79 The Loudest Punk Fanzine in the UK- Tony will be in conversation with Tony Gleed this evening, exploring the world of Ripped And Torn, and signing copies of the book for you to buy. One of the first punk fanzines, and longer lived than contemporary organs like Sniffing Glue, Ripped and Torn began in Glasgow in November 1976 and carried on into the next wave of punk. It ran for eighteen issues, all of which are faithfully reproduced in this book. By punks and for punks, Ripped and Torn is a fascinating document of the punk subculture and a sacred text of DIY culture. Daniel Rachel- Walls Come Tumbling Down charts the pivotal period between 1976 and 1992 that saw politics and pop music come together for the first time in Britain’s musical history; when ‘the political persuasion of musicians was as important as the songs they sang’. Through the voices of campaigners, musicians, artists and politicians, Daniel Rachel follows the rise and fall of three key movements of the time: Rock Against Racism, 2 Tone, and Red Wedge, revealing how they all shaped, and were shaped by, the music of a generation. Composed of interviews with over a hundred and fifty of the key players at the time, Walls Come Tumbling Down is a fascinating, polyphonic and authoritative account of those crucial sixteen years in Britain’s history. ‘Charts punk, 2 Tone and then Red Wedge’s subsequent battle for a multicultural Britain in a brilliant account of the period’ – Q Magazine. Daniel is in conversation tonight with Julie Hamill, with signed books available to buy. Radio Generation- Excellent punk, new wave, post punk and proto punk concept act, handpicked to compliment tonight’s books and entertain you beyond a bookish bedtime! Rad Gen don’t so much cover classic 70s/80s bangers as deconstruct them, re-imagine them and generally turn the upside down and inside out. Marvelous entertainment assured…check the setlist…BUZZCOCKS,  RAMONES, GEN X, THE DAMNED, MAGAZINE, RUTS,  DEAD BOYS, XTC, NUMAN, KRAFTWERK, BOWIE, IGGY, LOU.
