Ashden is a British-Nigerian musician and actor from East London, the Hackney native has been gradually building a following since his debut project Conversations with Myself, a soul-searching collection of experimental hip-hop, packed with layers of lyricism and errant pop culture references. A true window into the mind of the artist, most interesting across the EP is “Shango”, a stark and hypnotic anthem, calling on the name of the powerful African deity.
With dynamic performances at shows such as Art Meets Music last September, General Public (Paperdress Vintage) his on annual Ashden + Friends show and Netil360, he is steadily building momentum for his next body of work to be released this year.
His debut EP ‘Conversations With Myself’ features fan favourite tracks, Circles,(which was featured on WorldwideFM’s Future Bubblers Playlist) Keep On, Mirrors and standout Shango.
The visuals for “Shango”, premiered on Complex late last year. It’s described as ”a voyage of self-discovery”, Ashden, himself of Nigerian descent together with director Iggy LDN weave together a ceremonial clip, precise in themes of reclamation and its referencing of African proverbs and the Triangular Trade.
