Gig Description

AlascA –Fabulous head turning Dutch band whose artful sounds span emotionally wrought, skued indie pop not unlike early R.E.M or Blue Aeroplanes with a gritty, glam tension in the sassy guitars and probing rhythm. Clever, intriguing songs as heard on superb new album ‘Prospero’. They call it ‘European Country’, and there are certainly some aspects of American folk in the edgy, indie grind, not least due to the inclusion of some strangely bewitching banjo.. And Ferdinand Jonk has a great voice that plays with gender perceptions…but he’s definitely a fella! Sabatta – Afropunk they call it and I say oh yeah bring it on, fab genre…attitude aplenty and rhythmic complexities both in place. Gary Crowley has been playing them on London Beeb…picture Prince Charles and the City Beat Band meets King Sunny Ade meets Wire….sounds really cool right? Well it is. Georgia Maria – female solo artist making a big sound..influencd by Heart, PJ Harvey, Stevie Nicks, The Who, Joni Mitchell, Grace Slick and Joan Jett, with hat she calls a turbocharged acoustic-rock approach and ‘Powerful, darkly poetic modern rock’… we concur.
