Gig Description

PROG ROCK at The Fiddler's Elbow promotional image

Three great bands take to the stage for a night of fantastic Prog Music, including IT, a debut full band performance from Tom Slatter, and the amazing Circu5!

IT - Beginning life as a psychedelic, multi-media group, IT is a band with a colossal sound that shakes the bones, with a barrage of images that feeds the mind. IT’s sound fuses the classic melodies of prog rock’s past with a passion and intensity usually only found in punk or metal bands. Politics, religion, war and sexuality all come under the band’s lens for critical examination. Lyrics are intelligent, challenging and occasionally darkly humorous. The bottom line is that the IT experience will inform your thinking, feelings and memory long after the last notes have ended.

The latest album "We’re All In This Together" explores themes of austerity, inequality and an uncertain future for younger generations. Conceptually-based, it comprises 10 brand new tracks, including the debut single, Revolution, which was released back in October 2016, and supported with a strong video https://youtu.be/gk82tpzginU depicting rogue youth against an establishment protected by police

Tom Slatter Debut full band performance

‘A latter-day Victorian street-theatre barker with a guitar promising tales of mystery, imagination, ‘orrible murders and bloody great waving tentacles’ is how Tom Slatter has been described. Since 2010 he has been scaring audiences with five albums and numerous EPs of storytelling songs. The most common subject of those stories is murder. Whether a simple acoustic ballad or a full-on, twenty-minute rock epic, Tom has written about death, madness and tentacles for the best part of a decade with no sign of slowing down or turning to more ‘normal’ subject matter.

‘An unorthodox songwriter whose songs push the boundaries of what can be expected from the solo acoustic guitar troubadour’, or possibly just ‘an experiment too far’, Tom’s new EP Spirit Box sees him returning to his acoustic folk-rock roots after a sojourn into more rock tinged waters.

Spirit Box, released on 14th November, is his latest release. Given the last successful record was a full rock band affair, it is no surprise that Tom has decided not to repeat that. After all, we couldn’t have a consistent approach that builds on past successes, could we?

Circu5

CIRCU5 is the project of Steve Tilling – a British multi-instrumentalist and guitarist/vocalist for TC&I (the new band of Colin Moulding and Terry Chambers from XTC). Steve performs almost all instrumental and vocal duties on his debut album - while the live band also features Matt Backer on guitar and vocals, Mark Kilminster (ex-Tin Spirits) on bass and vocals, and Greg Pringle (Roger Daltrey Band) on drums.

Think CIRCU5… think XTC and Yes poured into a blender, mixed with a dash of 60s vocal harmonies and lashings of hard-driving rock. But while certain influences spring to mind, CIRCU5 exists in its own world of adrenalin-rush anthems, addictive choruses and goose-bump melodies.
