Gig Description

Mickey 9’s – Largely lauded Glasgow band celebrate their 10th anniversary with a full on tour,  which is great news for all fans of techy punky and  funky metallic dance music with sharp witted lyrics and a wild stage persona. Inspired initially by Daft Punk, these guys have put out massively collectible records with the likes of  Moshi Moshi and produced 2 cracking LPs into the bargain. “…a blend of meaty basslines, jaggy guitars, up-tempo rhythms and idiosyncratic vocals” The Scotsman. The Clang Group as fronted by uber producer (Morrisey, Madness, Bowie, Dexys etc) Clive Langer are releasing a Record Store Day Monks tribute 45 and this gig is the launch. What a fine thing. An all star cast that has included Roxy Music’s Andy McKay and one Suggs, The Clang Group’s angular Anglo psych pop is by turn experimental and blissful, but chock full of great tunes coz the former Deaf School head honcho has written a fair few (‘Shipbuilding‘ anyone?). Landspeeder – Gritty indie rock from a bunch of old faces from the 1990s Britpop scene (Reuben, Mandelbrot Set and F.O.N.D) and have worked with Suede, Echo & the Bunnymen, Kingmaker, Cast and loads more in the intervening years. Run Into the Night – 2 gals from Glasgow- psych and grunge touches with exultant harmonies and siren singing…could this be the post Nirvana Strawberry Switchblade?
