Gig Description

An Obscurity of Poets

Thursday 25th April 2019 - 8pm - 11pm

Poets are the "unacknowleged legislators of the world" according to Percy Byshee Shelley. But it's often not just as legislators they're unacknoweldged, so much as they're unacknowleged in general.

Come along to the fantastic Mascara Bar to help redress that at An Obscurity of Poets, a new night putting poetry and poetics centre stage.

Hosted by poet, storyteller and self-appointed public intellectual Andrew James Brown.

Feature Acts:

We've kept it down to just the two features, in order to give YOU maximum time on the mic. It's the first of many, so let's see how we get on.

Our inaugral fabulous features are:

Kirsty Diana Smith

Kirsty Diana Smith is a 21 year old Scottish spoken word artist. Inspired by watching spoken word videos on youtube, she started writing poetry three years ago to channel thoughts that were difficult to express. A lot of her work is centred around mental health issues. Kirsty's work can be found on her youtube channel: http://youtube.com/theface0fkirsteh and her blog [http://kirstydianasmith.wordpress.com]

Tim Wells

Tim Wells is made of reggae, lager top, pie and mash and Leyton Orient FC.

Chelsea Hare

In his previous incarnation as therunningchelsea, his music has been described as "an eclectic mish mash of sixties English psychedelia and acid, at times prog rock, at times alternative." his album "In the Future We Will Spinn" was described as "a representation of frenzied youth, dazed consumption and madness up there with Malcolm Lowry's modernist classic Under the Volcano in its vivid depiction and ambition". Performing solo with just his guitar and loop pedal, Chelsea Hare chops up these songs, trying to find another way to know them.
