We're extremely excited to announce that enigmatic Japanese group Yama Warashi will be performing at Sebright Arms this May.
Yama Warashi is formed by Bristol-based Japanese artist Yoshino Shigihara and her eclectic band members. Her music is dreamy and evocative, inspired by Japanese folk dance music, Bon Odori(盆踊り), free jazz and African music with a slice of electric psychedelia. Yoshino plays keyboard, percussion and sings songs in her mother tongue about mycelium, nuclear power stations and broken O.
The group's new album 'BOILED MOON' was released on Small Pond in November and has received airplay from the likes of Radio 6 Music and Radio 3's Late Junction and was featured on The Guardian's 'Best New Music' for November 2018.
Martha Skye Murphy
In 2013 Martha Skye Murphy was the featured singer on Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds’ album ‘Push the Sky Away’ and accompanied him as a backing vocalist on the respective tour. Martha was brought up in South East London and studied History of Art at Cambridge University. These experiences fuel the narrative based lyricism that is so apparent within her work, where explorations of contemporary life in London are assimilated with references to classical mythology, literature, poetry and abstract storytelling.
