Gig Description

Beats To The Bar are delighted to present The Birthmarks , with support from Dog Chocolate, Clémentine March and Life Drawings. Bands start from 7:15pm.

Marc Riley favourites The Birthmarks are a five piece from Manchester. Their new EP "No Slash", released in July, is a brilliant piece of lo-fi jangle wonk with the skuzz of Let's Wrestle, the monotony of The Rebel, a garagey 13th Floor Elevators psychedelic edge and the sense of fun of Terry. It's a worthy follow up to their also great 2017 album Yawn/Sigh.

Dog Chocolate are a bunch of noisy, messy, punky clatterers from London. With songs ranging between 8 seconds and two minutes and a penchant for a good chat in between songs, the live show is spontaneous, frenetic and fun. Their most recent album Moody Balloon Baby, released via Upset The Rhythm, accurately captures this mania.

Clémentine March, born in France, based in London, writes songs and instrumentals that cross language and genre borders. Playing in numerous bands, including Snapped Ankles, Bamboo and Mega Bog, Clémentine takes influence from the alt-rock sounds of Pavement, the Raincoats, Galaxie 500, the Beatles' White Album and avant-garde jazz. Her excellent debut EP, 'Les Etoiles à Ma Porte', was released on the 2nd of June.

Life Drawings are glorious. Sardonic, monotonous but utterly joyous, with catchy guitar hooks, bouncy bass lines and dry wit. Currently putting together their second release as a follow up to their superb self-titled debut album.
