The October edition of Folklore Presents takes us on leafy stroll through lush, dreamy soul-fusion, cerebral alt-hip-hop and psychedelic soundscapes...
North London trio Strangelove have been plying their abstract, singular hip hop since 2013 and still don’t sound quite like anyone else - cryptic but graceful verse sporting obscure metaphors and existential notions, backed by masterful beats ranging from smoky, head-bopping jazz sample jams to trippy IDM-meets-DMT lab experiments. Unparalleled creativity in the genre…
B-ahwe is the full-band project of rising Leeds vocalist Beth Herrington - born of a collaboration with cult producer Lausse the cat, and drawing influence from contemporaries such as Hiatus Kaiyote and Portishead, the 7-strong unit fuses hip-hop, trip-hop and neo-soul with jazzy chords, lush vocal textures and moody ambience. With support slots for Fatima and Yazmin Lacey under their belts and a debut EP in the wings, we couldn’t be more stoked to host them.
Rye Lane poet and all-round top bloke Ant Lavelle heads up trailblazing South London artist collective, label and party LoveHate Records and still finds time to craft his own sound - a meticulous blend of sage social commentary, personal experience and the odd quick-wit barb, conveyed with an easy flow and a glass in hand (not to mention beats from top-tier production talent such as Ghilburt, Frumhere and label-mate BOMBO).
