Gig Description

Stafford Tomlinson Presents...
An Untitled Sundays Special

A soulful variety of 70s funk curated and arranged by Pete Maas and his new band, The Dilly Brothers.

Peter Maas - bass

Core member and composer of Freeez, the world-renowned early proponents of 'Brit-funk' and jazz-funk, from their formation and first single in 1979 until the early 90s. They had an international hit with I.O.U. and a UK Top Ten with Southern Freeez. Maas also partially headed the Dazzling Urbanites in the early 90s. His tight and harmonic but rough-and-ready playing hasn't faltered, and he's found a band to lock with in a more classic funk unity. About Dilly Brothers Pete says, “We are playing songs we used to love and still do.”

Warabe Tatekoji - guitar, vocals

Blues guitarist in the 80s turning funkier through the years. Worked with King Bizkit Blues Band featuring Dick Heckstall-Smith and Zoot Money, and later with Jim Rodfold of the Kinks among others until ready to be bandleader and vocalist of Waranoid T from 1994 to 2000. Since then he had a break from being in bands so that 20 years of tension is being let loose, so beware.

Jonas Golland - drums, vocals

Versatile and unified playing since the 1990s. Live drummer and backing vocalist of Tiger Lillies since 2015, Started out in Californian psychedelic, jazz, emo, metal, musicals and noise projects in the late 90s. BMus(Hons) from BIMM London, early 00s. Since then recorded for The Wailers, Ceri James and Psychoyogi and others, established the rock fusion band I Am Meat and produced various media soundtracks. Produced albums for Jowe Head, Gardyloo Spew, and composes for his project Private Plebs who have a video, November 2019.

Toby Nowell - trumpet, saxophone

Toby began as an art student before switching to music in the early 90s. His eclectic style spans jazz, balkan, Ska and afro-beat. He has led The Runaway Wedding Band for over fifteen years and played and recorded with The Balkanatics, Bucimis and Shekoyokh. Toby has also worked in theatre as a MD, and played in the prog-rock bands Blue Soup and Psychoyogi. He can regularly be seen with Bukky Leo’s Black Egypt at the Jazz Café in Camden, and at festivals nationwide.
