BEGAYER:

"Bégayer’s debut album proper sees them pursuing a rust-bucket take on panglobal folk styles that arrives at its own kind of otherness. Composed over the course of a year and recorded at l’Épicerie Moderne, a venue and arts centre in Feyzin to the south of Lyon, it’s another superb example of the inventiveness and delicious impurity of the current French folk scene. Voices are unfettered, pushed to near-breaking point, percussion is thrashed and guitars are like a wire wool scrub for the ears – and it’s thoroughly invigorating." The Quietus

CLEMENTINE MARCH:

London-based French singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Clémentine March is releasing her eclectic, charming and truly cosmopolitan debut album Le Continent on Lost Map Records in January. Clémentine characterises herself as “an alt-rock teenager from the 90s,” yet one who studied classical guitar from a young age, and followed her love of Vila Lobos, Caetano Veloso and more to Brazil for two years in her 20s, where she became immersed in choro, samba and traditional Brazilian genres. Sung in four languages – English, French, Portuguese and Spanish – and influenced by everything from Nirvana to Milton Nascimento, Clémentine’s melodically idiosyncratic and joyfully wild music embodies her nomadic spirit by recognising no borders – be they musical, linguistic or geographical.
