Gig Description

Crosstown Concerts presents
Ralfe Band
+ Piney Gir (duo show)
Sebright Arms, London
29.01.2020

Ralfe Band return with a new single ‘Sweating It Out’ that was written and recorded in celebration of the band preparing for their first show since 2014, headlining a stage at Truck Festival, Oxfordshire in July.

Oly Ralfe says, ‘I wanted to capture the crazed energy of Ralfe Band’s shows that we developed when gigging the last album Son Be Wise. I also re-listened to my first album Swords recently and wanted to capture the spirit and fun of that but in a new way.’

Recorded at Shonk Studios in Oxford and Oly’s home studio Ellesmere Studio, ‘Sweating It Out’ features regular Ralfe Band members who have also been busy as Gaz Coombes’ touring band, and feature on Gaz’s BBC 6 Music playlisted single ‘Salamander’. In recent times members of Ralfe Band have also been heard playing with Saint Etienne, Willie J Healey and Nadine Shah.

Line-up:
Oly Ralfe - vocals, guitar
Garo Nahoulakian - guitar
Nick ‘Growler’ Fowler - bass guitar
Mike Monaghan - drums, percussion
Emma Faulkner - keyboards, backing vocals
Tomas Greenhalf – saxophone

Whilst taking a break from Ralfe Band, Oly Ralfe released his debut solo album in 2018, the critically acclaimed instrumental piano album, Notes From Another Sea. Oly performed special shows accompanied by a classical ensemble at London’s St. Pancras Old Church and Oxford’s Holywell Music Room, Europe’s oldest custom-built concert hall.

Praise for Notes From Another Sea:

‘Very few albums utterly confound your expectations, but, hell, this one does. This music is extraordinary
. . . a blissfully beautiful collection of tunes. The simplicity, tenderness and subtly seductive power of
these simple but sublime melodies blows me away.’ ★★★★★ RnR Magazine

‘Close-miked and immaculately recorded, each of the album’s 14 instrumental piano pieces glow,
delicately, with intimacy and immediacy.’ ★★★★ Record Collector
