Gig Description

STATIC SHOCK GIG VOL #183:

HYGIENE
Hygiene take the listener on a post-pub stagger through the concrete walkways and underpasses of Britain's decline. Daydreaming at their offices on a weekday or at home with their record collection on a Saturday night, the members of Hygiene are dislocated in both time and space. One DM boot in the past and the other longwing brogue firmly up the backside of the present. Hygiene see historical continuities and follow them to their logical conclusions, reducing their influences down to their essential constituent elements and reassembling them into now music for now people. Flouting Rockist conventions with equal doses of stark minimalism and plodding fury, these post-punks resolutely refuse the "post" prefix. They finally released their sophomore album 'Private Sector' on Upset The Rhythm last summer and we can't wait to have them back again.

SKIFTANDE ENHETER
Gothenburg's Skiftande Enheter released not one, but two of our favourite 12"s last year. They come across as some kind of hybrid of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Beat Happening and even the Velvet Underground. In their own words "Skiftande Enheter started out as a punk band, not the noisiest kind but still noisy enough to scare away the most sensitive ears. Our new record IS noisy but its not really punk anymore, more like pop or new wave or postpunk or something like that.". It is ridiculously catchy, and this is your only chance to see them in the UK, so make it count.

THE COOL GREENHOUSE
The Cool Greenhouse are here to influence the modern listener and awake them out of their state of slumber into the modern era where they can face the cold-harsh realities of the modern living.
The Cool Greenhouse have an amazing way of pin-pointing the mundane nuances of British culture in 3 minute sharp stabs of sarcasm. Tom Greenhouse writes with great lyrical awareness and this single would sit comfortably in the lexicon of great 80s post-punk recordings, Lumpy Records released "Crap Cardboard Pet" last year and it's quite something.

SARCASM
Sarcasm deal in angular post punk led by skeletal guitars and a locked in rhythm section. The vocals are nonchalant and sound like someone totally bored of life and everything that surrounds it. It just adds to the bleak and broody vibes that are sprinkled on each of the four tracks. The sound sits somewhere between a more sparse Crisis, The Fall - in the glory years on Step Forward Records and Hygiene. This is the sound of the past, the sound of now and the sound of dissatisfaction. First show in ages!
