Shacklewell Arms

Gig Description

***** ‘…a profound talent.’ - The Guardian

Welsh multi-instrumentalist Gwenifer Raymond comes to Shacklewell Arms for her long awaited London debut. Expect a rapturous evening of American primitive guitar.

After being gifted Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’, Gwenifer picked up the guitar and delved into the world of punk and grunge. For years she toured Wales as part of various punk outfits, before discovering blues and American primitive guitar by exploring the blues and folk heroes of her punk and grunge heroes. Since then, Gwenifer has used the niche form of American primitive style, a genre that allows guitars to embark on flowing and expressive solos similar to that of Indian raga, to express herself through her original compositions.

Gwenifer’s debut album, ‘You Were Never Much of a Dancer’ has received critical acclaim and has been embraced by both old-west and experimental audiences. Played with unmistakable virtuosity, ‘You Were Never Much of a Dancer’ is an adventurous journey of an album that features subtle field recordings, bright waltzy guitar, and urgent, moody banjo.

Guitar enthusiasts and old school blues lovers, don’t miss out on this long awaited, intimate live show.

Earth Cruises donates 10% of profit from all shows to carefully selected causes. Gwenifer has chosen Client Earth, a charity that uses the power of the law to protect the planet and the people who live on it.
