Rebel Aces – funtime 4 piece rockabilly covers band, strait outta North London… Eddie Rickenbacker – Vocals, rhythm guitar, Alex G – Lead guitar, backing vocals, Chris Benson – Slap bass, backing vocals, Paul G – Drums, backing vocals….playing covers from Elvis to Stray Cats, and also, rather eexcitingly, and in the tradition perhaps of Brit rockabilly pioneers, the very wonderful Polecats, perform ravishing rockabilly versions of classic songs outside the scene, from T-Rex to Depeche Mode. They can certainly do it, fabulously well, will be a great night out. Cult Figures – West Midlands artpop (in the best possible way) and post punk satirists come janglesome ramalama fiends, who came up in the wake of Swell Maps back in the as they say day, care of the very beautiful ‘Zip Nolan’ 45…more followed, and then the Cult Figures seemingly sank outta sight…only to beatifically bounce back some thirty odd years later. Ace! After a series of superb E.Ps and a lovely 40 years in the making debut album, the band produced a fabulous second album of new, witty, woebegone songs, ‘Deritend’. Brilliant stuff, every one a winner. Sadly ee lost original singer Gary Jones earlier this year, and the band performed a superb tribute gig to him in the Dublin last April for a packed, rapt audience. Great to welcome them back again. Kape Beth Sarah – Melodic and passionate retro pop- something of St Etiene perhaps, as evinced by the dance remix of torch song smoulderer ‘Secrets’…a clear female vocal and uber pop backing -very commercial, think upbeat 1990s indie with hooky choruses, in a similar vein to Alanis Morissette, KT Tunstall, Texas etc. DJs We Got Killers – Back Room Bangers til Midnight, from Wanda Jackson to Michael Jackson, Skrillex to Telex…if it’s a killer tune it’s gonna shake the room.
