Gig Description

A night of robot fighting and live music

LIVE ROBOT FIGHTING, 18:00

  • Purpose-built machines do battle in a specially-constructed arena with the aim of immobilising each other
  • It's just like Robot Wars except the robots there weighed 110kg while the ones tonight weigh 150g
  • Full tournament (gold medal), Rumble (silver medal) and side event (TBC)
  • Open arena from 19:35 - have a go on a robot yourself
  • Live battle music
  • Get in touch (tolerablemusic@gmail.com) if you have your own antweight which you would like to enter
  • We also sell kits to build your own robot - just add tools and imagination

HUSBAND CALLING CONTEST, 19:00

  • Based on the annual contest at the Iowa State Fair, come on up and show us how you call your no-good husband to come here right now and/or tell him off. Loose definitions of "husband" and "calling". We will introduce it with some examples.
  • £5 prize for the best call as judged by the host (if we get 4 or more entrants)

LIVE MUSIC

  • Hypnobard
Hypnobard will take you on a sonic voyage through faraway galaxies, blending rock with exploration of other music styles, one genre-hopping track at a time. This musical expedition will take you through the depths of inner and outer space. Hypnobard is an interdimensional entity and picks up stories and music ideas from various worlds and time periods. On earth he got inspired by Yes, Hawkwind, Asia, Iron Maiden, Jeff Wayne, Meat Loaf, Bach, Queen, Rachmaninoff and many other profound musical entities.

  • FFRANK
FFRANK is the self-described wonkiest band ever to wonk. The mixed gender, female-fronted London-based band take influence from pop history’s more unashamedly eccentric and kitsch elements to create a sound built of abrupt key changes, (occasionally) dissonant harmonies, and wobbly-pitched keyboard.
