Who Are Counters Creek?

Based in London, Counters Creek are a genre-defying acoustic folk band known for their vibrant original compositions. Drawing inspiration from the folk traditions of the British Isles and beyond, their music is an exhilarating mix of jigs, reels, and earthy grooves, infused with the rhythms of Eastern Europe and West Africa. Expect tightly woven melodies, dynamic arrangements, and a deep sense of rhythm that will get audiences moving.

A Band of Musical Heavyweights

Each member of Counters Creek brings serious musical credentials to the mix:

•Jonathan Taylor (whistles) is an acclaimed jazz pianist and co-founder of Tango Siempre, with credits including Pee Wee Ellis, Ruby Turner, and Robert Wyatt.

•Ben Cox (vocals, harmonium, flutes) is a jazz-trained singer and bandleader, musical director of multiple choirs across London, and known for his lyrical vocal delivery and sensitive instrumentation.

•Tom Newell (fiddle, banjo, mandolin) plays with folk trio Effra and has performed with everyone from Muse to Lana Del Rey, blending virtuosity with folk authenticity.

•Moss Freed (guitar) brings experimental flair from his work with the Spike Orchestra and John Zorn’s Tzadik label.

They’re joined on their upcoming album by:

•Jordan Murray (percussion) – from acclaimed folk band Ranagri.

•Tom Mason (double bass) – known for collaborations with Mark Ronson, Questlove, and Lily Allen.
