Woking Calling play the Songs of The Clash and the Jam – The Jam and the Clash! Made up musicians who’ve played for the UK Subs, Chords UK,, Vodka Tourists, Chelsea, and Bruce Foxtons Solo band, and having seen both bands live many times, we play with a passion and care, that we hope you’ll appreciate. We are not a tribute to either, but most definitely a lover of both, playing a song from each band in a chronological order, with the classics held back to the end. This allows us to play some of the favourite album tracks, alongside the singles. Think Mr Clean and Safe European home, then Little Boy Soldiers and Career Opportunities, leaving the hits to the end of the 2nd set. We hope to see you at this amazing venue. But make sure you arrive nice and early -7pm – for the Jam n Clash interview/Q and A element of today’s show… Rock N Roll Book Club tonight explores two new books from Spenwood Books, The Clash and The Jam being the two subjects…a pair of bands very much uttered in the same breath back in the heady days of 1977, and still now for that matter. They go together like a pint of Guinness and a bag of Tatos (available at the bar, natch). All The Young Punks by Iian Key is an oral history of The Clash in the words of over 300 fans, from their beginnings to the very end. With a forward by mega Clash and Jam fan Billy Bragg (and chief architect in the Jail Guitar Doors prison programme). Spenwood head honcho Richard Houghton will join the author and chairman Tony Gleed on stage to discuss all aspects of the book, and invite questions from the floor. Indeed our panel will be exploring both books this evening. Malcolm Wyatt’s Solid Bond In Your Heart. A People’s History of The Jam will hit the streets and online stores very soon too, and we warmly welcome Malcolm to the discussion. A fascinating evening no doubt, revolving around an era and a pair of bands very dear to the hearts of proper music fans young and old. Luckily you can also relive those glory years tonight, thanks to our Punk and New Wave Disco, overseen by one Tone Trash throughout the night. And as C79 drummer and celebrated DJ Griff Griffiths always says…you can’t have The Clash without having The Jam! Hitsville UK…That’s Entertainment!
