Gig Description

London songwriter Dave Burn celebrates the release of his new album Medium Dave and Friends with a special launch show at The Harrison. Known for a sound that drifts between Neil Young’s melodic grit, Calexico’s desert textures, and Tom Petty’s classic songcraft, Burn has carved out a reputation as a rootsy folk-Americana artist with memorable hooks and razor-sharp lyrics.

Burn’s journey began fronting acclaimed alt-country outfit Ahab, a band that lit up the UK Americana scene and won famous admirers in Bob Harris and Simon Mayo. Since then he’s toured and recorded with Orphan Colours and The Marriage (his harmony-rich duo with Kirsten Adamson), while also co-writing with scene favourites like Danny & The Champions of the World, Blair Dunlop, and Danni Nicholls. With Medium Dave and Friends, released on Street Mission Records, Burn steps confidently into his own spotlight.

This launch show promises to be more than a run-through of the record. Expect a set that brings the songs to life with energy and intimacy, weaving new material with older favourites and perhaps a few of the collaborations he’s known for. The “friends” element is central to the album, and it will carry through on stage—an evening built around shared music, harmonies, and Burn’s gift for connection. Songs like “Never Did Dance” and “Universe” show just how immediate and affecting this material can be, and in a live setting those qualities only deepen.

Joining him is Michael J. Sheehy, an artist whose career has spanned from the cult alt-rock of Dream City Film Club on Beggars Banquet in the late ’90s, to three acclaimed solo albums, to leading Miraculous Mule and exploring experimental sound with United Sounds of Joy. In 2020 he returned with Distance Is the Soul of Beauty, a stark and beautiful record praised for its intimacy and depth. Live, Sheehy balances raw power with lyrical precision—an ideal counterpoint to Burn’s melodic Americana.

This launch at The Harrison will be a night of new songs and seasoned craft, with two of London’s most distinctive singer-songwriters sharing the stage. For anyone with a love of folk, Americana, or contemporary songwriting, it’s set to be a standout evening.
