GURP is a Bristol-based folk-grunge band bringing a fresh, chaotic charm to the city’s music scene. GURP started as two families jamming together in 2023, and out of that joyful chaos grew a full-bodied sound that fuses darkly comic lyrics with high energy folk. Drawing on influences from klezmer to grunge and jazz to punk, GURP blends clarinet, accordion, violin, guitar and drums to create something both raucous and yearning. GURP (Andy, Emily, Joe, Michael and Ramona) don’t take themselves too seriously - but their sound is seriously infectious.

James C. Lyons

James C. Lyons is a musician from Cork, Ireland, who has been based in London for the past 15 years. Alongside his work as a recording and performing artist, he works as a music therapist and family therapist, both within the NHS and in private practice.

His first band, Jezery, released three EPs and toured extensively throughout Ireland, the UK, and mainland Europe in the early 2000s. Since then, Lyons has gone on to play with the London-based Irish band Swimmers Jackson, whose indie-grunge-folk recordings have received airplay on BBC Radio 6 Music, RTÉ Radio 1, and beyond. The band has toured widely across Ireland and the UK and are due to release a new album in Spring 2026.

Shaped by years of gigging and recording with bands and as a solo artist in both Ireland and the UK, as well as by collaborations with a wide range of musicians in London on bass, guitar and vocals, Lyons’ sound is a melding of these influences. His music combines an idiosyncratic guitar style with deft lyricism and heartfelt vocal delivery.

He has released two solo albums to date—Hinterland (2019) and Plot Twists (2021)—both available online. This performance with Gurp will mark his first solo London show in some time and will feature new material from an upcoming album scheduled for release in late 2026.
