The Word Zoo x POW! Play On Words (A one-off collaborative special) - Open Mic Slots Available

For the first event back of 2026, The Word Zoo and POW! Play On Words come together for a one-off collaborative open mic night.

This special event blends two open mic communities into a shared evening of poetry, spoken word, performance, and music — creating moments you won’t experience at either event on its own.

The night follows The Word Zoo’s three-section format, with collaboration woven throughout:

• Section 1: Acoustic-only performances

• Sections 2 & 3: Performances with The Word Zoo house band

• Word Zoo x POW hosts, performers, and open micers are interwoven throughout the night

• Joint hosting and alternating introductions

• With the potential for a Word Zoo x POW mashup jam to close the evening

Rather than splitting the night into halves, this event is fully blended from start to finish.

The night will feature performers from across both communities, including:

THE RIVER HAS NO COLOUR (POW)

Several performers appearing as part of POW are connected to THE RIVER HAS NO COLOUR — an interdisciplinary poetry and film project exploring riverine themes through mythic, historical, ecological, and social perspectives.

The project takes its title from a pamphlet by poet Jessica Taggart Rose, which explores the River Seine in mythic, historical, and environmental terms.

Bringing together multiple poets and artists, THE RIVER HAS NO COLOUR examines how rivers shape us — and how we shape them — both physically and culturally. Its first iteration was held in Gravesend, at the riverside where the Thames meets the North Sea, with the area’s industrial and maritime history adding further resonance to the work. Featuring…
