28 Harrison St. WC1H 8JF London

Gig Description

New Roots presents a contemporary jazz / instrumental roots double bill, featuring Moostak Trio & Akimbo. Doors open 7.30 pm, music from 8.00 pm sharp.  The Moostak Trio are a London based group set at exploring the riches within the world of instrumental improvised music. Formed through the harmonious connection between long standing friends and collaborators Harry Christelis, Andrea Di Biase, & Dave Storey, the ensemble seeks out the soft and ambient tones within Harry’s original compositions and arrangements, interjected with moments of fire and intensity. Space within the music is key, and is used to instigate highly interactive conversations between the three distinct voices; voices that draw their inspiration from many different places. From Bill Frisell to Radiohead, John Coltrane to The Beatles, RJ Miller to Connan Mockasin, a wealth of listening has brought this band to be what it is. Harry Christelis – Guitar/Effects Andrea Di Biase – Double Bass Dave Storey Drums Akimbo is all askew. It’s messing with pop, playing with jazz, and finding space in time. Created from a love of complex simplicity, angular harmony and serious fun, Pedro Velasco and Nell Greco lead this pedal-tastic project, seeking out the sweetest musical spots that often hide in plain sight. Inspired by the likes of Tom Waits, The Dirty Three, Eva Cassidy and Bill Frisell, Akimbo play the music they love, whether original or covered, and are ever in flux. Tickets £8.50 adv HERE // £10 on the door
