Doors:

The Harrison

28 Harrison St. WC1H 8JF London

Gig Description

On October 3, jay sunaway launch their new EP ‘sparrowfeather’ in London’s famous folk venue The Harrison.

In their most ambitious gig to date, they will be playing new arrangements of songs from throughout their 5 year life, as well as the entirety of the new EP. They will perform two sets – the first with a full string section, and the second in the original lineup with bass and drums. Support comes from experimental pop duo Limpet Space Race, and witty post-punk duo LOVELL. Album artist Rebecca Loweth will decorate the space.

jay sunaway are an ever-changing collective of musicians led by singer and guitarist Joe Woods. The songs are built using simple, traditional instrumentation, and arranged with a nod to jazz and post-rock.

‘A very traditional feel with a jazz touch… Beautiful textures. you can feel this has been arranged’BBC Introducing

‘The band combine folk instruments with bass and drums but without going all folk-rock. In fact, their music displays great subtlety.’
Folking Magazine

‘Behind elegant finger picked guitar lines and reflective lyrics is a fully fleshed out world of reverby harmonies, lush string arrangements, and strikingly dynamic bass lines’

LOVELL

Rhymes with shovel. Lo-fi punk vibe with cool acoustic grooves and witty but weird songs about sleazy dreams and domestic chores.

“Minimalist lo-fi punk vibe with cool acoustic grooves and witty but weird songs about sleazy dreams and domestic chores. Hints of Violent Femmes and The Roches but Lovell are unique and brilliant. We love Lovell and Clerkenwell ArtsLab audiences – who have great taste – love Lovell too.”
The Clerkenwell ARTSlab

”Hannah Lovell writes distinctly original and playfully poetic songs that are equal parts melodious, humorous, evocative and seductive… with a surrealistic twist, where The Wizard Of Oz meets The Wicker Man. Whether it’s playing ping pong with a president, giving fashion tips to Sting, telling tales of travelling tattoo artists or singing spice-slicing recipe reveries, hers is a delectably inventive mix of parsley, sage advice, road safety and wild times!”
Sad House Daddy

“Hannah’s ironic twist to the poetical voice of traditional folk is a welcome and inspiring incorporation to the London Alternative Folk Contemporary scene. Strong and dominant vocals and beautifully entwined guitar work, making her a joy to experience live and in recordings.”

Limpet Space Race

‘Multitasking excellence’ ‘The EP really shines’
Nightshift Magazine

BBC Introducing

‘One of my favourite songs by local artists this year’. Dave Gilyeat on ‘Half Light’
