Gig Description

Get ready for a night of irresistible energy and inventive folk music.

Hearken Quartet take inspiration from the vibrant dance traditions of Europe, weaving together clarinet, Uilleann pipes, guitar, piano, and diatonic accordion into a powerful and playful sound. Their music breathes new life into balfolk and Euro-dance styles—whether it’s the chain dances of Brittany, the flowing couple dances of Scandinavia, or the earthy bourrées of the French Auvergne. Formed in 2017 and expanded in 2022, the quartet deliver inventive arrangements that create a rousing atmosphere and a wall of sound guaranteed to get feet moving.

Joining them is Elye Cuthbertson, a rising force on the folk scene bringing a fresh voice to the melodeon. With over a decade steeped in English folk tradition and a love of Balfolk and European dance music, Elye has developed a unique, inventive style that shines in both his original compositions and reimagined traditional tunes. His debut EP Two Rainy Days (2024) showcases his creative approach, and his performances—from festival stages to London’s Royal Albert Hall—demonstrate a rare blend of skill, warmth, and innovation.

Together, Hearken Quartet and Elye Cuthbertson promise an evening of music that’s as heartfelt as it is danceable, rooted in tradition but full of fresh ideas.
