The Harrison

28 Harrison St. WC1H 8JF London

Gig Description

‘Alvorada are the UK’s leading performers of Choro, a rich and uplifting style of instrumental music from Brazil. After sell-out shows in Paris and Pizza Express Holborn celebrating the launch of their debut album ‘First Light’ (5 stars Songlines), Alvorada will be returning to the Harrison to pull some exciting new tunes out of the hat!   Choro emerged in the late 19th century as a mixture of European harmony with African rhythm, and can be considered the jazz of Brazil. Alvorada explore influences from all over Brazil, playing choros with the irresistible swing of samba from the South and baião from the Northeast. As well as playing classics from the Choro genre, Alvorada play original works, revisiting the genre with influences from the UK.’

Andrew Woolf – clarinet
Luiz Morais – 7 string guitar
Jeremy Shaverin – cavaquinho
Alua Nascimento – pandeiro
